Graham Cridland Event

Graham Cridland and Friends – Charity Event for the disabled – 15th April 2007

When Graham asked me to promote his forthcoming charity event on All Things Piscatorial.com, I was, of course, only too happy to do so.

But I also thought it would be a good chance to see for myself the great work Graham has been doing down in West Sussex at the Lake View Fishery and report on his event for the www.allthingspiscatorial.com website at the same time.

That is just what Paula and I did and I am really glad we made the trip down to Sussex from Buckinghamshire on a cracking day.  The weather was wonderful and – amazingly – the roads were clear.

I had never been to Lake View before, but I am sure I will be back sometime soon; the lake is full of quality fish with plenty of silver fish along with a really good head of Carp to 30lb+.

Lake View Fisheries is set in 32 acres of Sussex’s finest countryside and located centrally between London and the South Coast.  The lake is some 8 acres in size and was created over 200 years ago.

For the purpose of today’s event we headed for the island via the bridge where we were greeted by Graham who proudly showed us around his impressive round house classroom/tackle shop.  Graham played the genial host by making the tea and talked with great passion of his plans for the future.  There is much work to do, but one thing is for sure, Graham has the drive and passion to really make a difference to youngsters from the county of Sussex and beyond.

So what was today’s event about?  It was to raise money for disabled charities.

It was quite clear from walking across the bridge that there were plenty of fish in the lake and, judging by the fact that everyone had a keepnet in the water, that they were all catching.

I was right; plenty of Roach, Bream along with Carp including Mirror, Common and Crucian Carp, being caught on the float and ledgered/method tactics, with maggot and corn catching the lion’s share of the fish.

The match results:

1st place           Mark Stanbrooke

2nd place          Nigel Owden

3rd place           Malcolm Berry

Mark Stanbrooke                              Nigel Owden with help from Clare

Best Newcomer – Oliver, aged 7, with 8lb 7oz of silver fish, came 5th overall, which is a tremendous effort when you consider he has only just started fishing and, under the expert guidance/coaching from Graham Cridland is well on the road to a lifetime’s enjoyment of angling.
