Found a Coach, What Next?

If you have found a coach on this site, you may be wondering what questions you need to ask him/her.  Here are a few tips.

Tell the coach your reasons for hiring him/her and what you are hoping to achieve from your lesson. Have you fished before?  Are you looking to catch a particular species?

The coach will need to know if you are a beginner or if you are looking for advanced tuition.

If you have any disabilities, tell the coach – he/she can then tailor the session and location accordingly.

It is best to be guided by the coach regarding the location of your lesson – he/she will know the best place for you to achieve your aims, although there is no reason why you cannot suggest a local venue or somewhere you would like to fish.

Ask your coach how long the session will be.

Check if the coach can provide all the tackle for the session and whether you will need to bring something appropriate to sit on.

If you own your own tackle, check with the coach that it is appropriate for the tuition he will be giving you.

Discuss with the coach the best clothing for the lesson, ie boots, waterproofs, gloves etc.

When discussing the fee for the lesson, check if there are any additional costs, eg day tickets, bait, etc.

Check with the coach if you need an Environment Agency Angling Licence – depending on your age you may require one.
