Once again, ATP members from all over the country attended –
The plan was to meet at the fishery, have a lovely relaxing day’s fishing and then have a meal and drink afterwards at the local pub.
Sounds great, I hear you say. Yes, the company was great – but the weather could not have been worse! To say it was heavy is an understatement – it poured down all day long.
Undeterred, we braved the weather and found our spot on the lake.
I chose not to fish at this event – instead I took the chance to chat to everyone while they fished. The great thing about these events is that we get to meet and chat to new members and this day was no different, with a number of new coaches attending.
Coaches’ day virgins were as follows.
Ian Boden
David Lewis
Graham Cridland
Craig Cartridge
Alan Jones (non member)
Plus a few old timers (so to speak!)
Richard Watson
Annie Higham
Dave Higham
Danny Williamson
The fishing was not easy, because most of the time the rain was so heavy that you could hardly see the float in the water.
But a bit of local knowledge was put to good use by Ian Boden – who fished the bottom end of the pool. Although the fishing was slow, Ian did manage to catch a few small Carp, Roach and Tench – enough to win the friendly match.
The biggest fish of the day was landed by Danny Williamson – a Chub of 1lb 8oz plus a few bits for second place – this was the second ATP match and the second time Danny has held the runner’s up spot – Mr Consistent!
By lunchtime, we could take the rain no more and we sought refuge at the local public house to have a bite to eat and dry off a bit.
We all gathered around two tables to discuss the day and coaching in general – of course.
After filling our tanks and drying off it was time to hit the road and drive back home.
Once again we managed to raise over £100 for a local charity – this time it was in aid of the Birmingham Children’s Hospital.
Well done Ian for sorting out a really good day – despite the weather.
Next stop –
