The Angling Development Board
Since April 2007, some major changes have taken place with the formation of Angling Development Board, a company limited by guarantee, which replaces the JADB as the joint development arm of the three governing bodies for angling in this country.
Currently, the ADB is funded predominantly by Sport England with some additional financial support from the Environment Agency. A Board of Directors (two from each of the angling governing bodies) governs the ADB under the direction of an independent Chairman, David Moore.
However, a team of five professional development staff runs the day-to day operations.
We are now writing to you to provide an update on the development of the ADB and inform you of current opportunities for coaches.
Fishcoach.org…the future:
The Angling Development Board is committed to developing a World-Class Coaching scheme building on the existing development of awards. This involves a review of the current licensing scheme – Fishcoach.org and the marketing of services.

It is intended to use the audit to address issues surrounding the Licensing Programme ready for a major re launch of the scheme in January 2008. SportsCoachUK who are managing the Governing Body Scheme are considering the potential of one Licensing Scheme to cover all sport. The Angling Development Board is committed to being at the forefront of any such future plans.
The aim of the Board is to construct an improved scheme with enhanced Membership benefits. This would include a more robust insurance policy to include wide but appropriate benefits tailored to coaches including trainee and Level 1 coaches. Fishcoach hopes to include a broad discount scheme to enable coaches to purchase direct from suppliers. Consideration is also being given to the inclusion of Governing Body fees in the annual subscription.
If you would like to be part of the consultation process, please contact the ADB. (malcolm.hanson@anglingdevelopmentboard.org.uk).
Insurance
New insurance cover, which is much more comprehensive than the previous policy, has been arranged through Blythin and Brown. The key points of the new policy are:
q Public Liability with £ 5,000,000 limit of indemnity.
q Personal Accident and Disablement benefit up to £ 10,000 maximum sum.
q Professional Indemnity coverage including cover for libel & slander risks.
q Inclusion of any coaching & advice activities, not just those undertaken on behalf of the ADB or your Governing Body.
q Inclusion of product liability resulting from incidental sales equipment.
q Inclusion of Member to Member liability.
q Scale of fees to include Level 1 Coaches and Trainees
q A range of other benefits which are outlined in the full policy schedule.
A full Policy Schedule will shortly be available on the Fishcoach website. It should be emphasised that the cover is only available to Licensed Coaches who are members of Fishcoach.org. All Licensed instructors will be issued with a Certificate of Insurance which outlines the basic points when working with the public or on behalf of public bodies.
UKCC is an initiative to endorse coach education programmes, across ALL sports within the
§ the endorsement of the coaching qualification;
§ the development of appropriate resources to deliver effective and high quality coach education programmes;
§ quality assured administration and management structure of coach education provision provided by sports;
§ quality assured training provision of coach education programmes.
Angling has been committed to this programme since its inception as part of the Government’s Coaching Task Force Report in 2002. The development of Level 1 and Level 2 Coaching Awards has been mapped against the anticipated standards of the UKCC. The ADB is now refining the qualifications to meet the agreed UKCC criteria for endorsement. We will continue to consult with the professional bodies throughout the process.
It is anticipated that this work will be completed by June 2008. Any changes to the revised qualification will be kept to a minimum and coaches will be kept updated on a regular basis.
